![]() ![]() ![]() Why? You never know… Burnsville, Minnesota could suddenly be overrun with supervillains and there I’d be without a rubber suit to don and kick some Joker ass. In late 2002 I decided I needed a custom made, high quality batsuit. They are usually very hand made looking… film is very forgiving. Actual props from movies don’t look that good up close. I would call it ‘movie prop quality’ but the truth is it is actually much better than most of the movie costumes probably were. Nicknamed the “Panther” batsuit by Batman geeks because of its sleek and organic look compared to the bulky Keaton suits, this was (and still is) my favorite of the movie suits (yes, even with the unfortunate “nipples”). It’s a perfect replica of the Val Kilmer “Batman Forever” suit. Or WB going out of there way to screw over Billy Dee Williams for Batman Forever, to the point of breaking contract to do it (his contract reportedly had a clause to reserve Two-Face for any sequels but the studio did a buy out for to cast Jones).Īnd of course to this day, people still use those two films as "proof" that a more fun and lighter take on the character could never work (because LEGO Batman apparently just doesn't exist for some fans it seems) or that Robin is a horrible character that can never appear in films regardless of tone despite how popular the Robins are or that it robs the movies of the interesting dynamics the Robins bring. An amazing costume, however. Even the New Batman Adventures when they referenced him in the episode Legends of the Dark Knight did a jab at his sexuality.Īlways feel sorry for the crap Alicia Silverstone got from the press, reviewers and fans at the time for Batman and Robin because of her weight, like singing "Fatgirl" at her at conventions or mocking her for not being thin enough etc. Plus, well quite bluntly a lot of of the hate towards him about the movies had and still has a homophobic tone to it, especially when it comes to the costumes. If you look at the stuff Schumacher wanted to do with the series, it shows a way more psychological movies that really wanted to deconstruct the character. Click to shrink.Yeah, the specific word WB used was "toyetic" (like the random costume switch to the "Ice Suits" in B&R) which makes sense from the purely business side after Batman Returns cost them a lucrative McDonalds tie-in. ![]()
